Office Manager

I spent 7 years in my first job after my education in E W Taylors initially as a runner, but within 2 years I was the youngest branch manager in the group. I left in 1992 just before the EEC took effect.

E W Taylors are a shipping and freight forwarding firm with warehouse facilities. The office in Portsmouth handled freight coming into and exiting to the continent via France. As office manager I lead a team of 16 staff, working shifts over 18 hours a day 7 days a week. I worked closely with Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and shipping companies such as P&O on behalf of corporate clients clearing goods in and out of the country and arranging delivery to site. We also had commercial tennants renting our office space. It was high energy time critical and very intense work.

Within my tenure I turned the office into a profitable branch for the first time, increasing turnover 4 fold in the process.
