How do you write an Application Programming Interface to a COBAL billing database in the 90's?
Well this is what I was brought into BT to achieve. It took a deep understanding of the order management application for managed ISDN2 and working with the billing team to come up with the solution.
I delivered this into live from Zero domain knowledge in 3 months.
The answer to the above question is not to wear a strange uniform. It was achieved through structured fixed length text files, encoded to represent the host tables with some reworking of the source application to capture addition specifics. Sounds simple: It was not!
