D Channel product creation

When you go into a London bus stop and see the electronic messaging - I contributed to the creation of that!

Well at least initially: Nowadays they may be using Wifi. Back in the day however, the only really cost effective data network was over copper - ISDN2. However this was dial-up, and the make use of the bandwidth available in the two B channels you had to incur telephone charges.

A clever engineer realised however that part of the design of ISDN2 included a D channel, which was a keep-alive always-on connection to the exchange of very low bandwidth. However there was some availability i that bandwidth to enable trickle-data through without compromising the keep-alive function.

I worked with the team to provide a whole new product that was perfect for the basic displays at the London bus stops you now see today. It was a complex management of hose and client availability configuration that required a whole suite of order configuration and technical management functionality to deliver out.

It is because of this BT Group wide innovation you now know when your busses are coming.
